Today we learned what to do when we have to go out of the room. What we do is we take a magnet with our number on it (which we also got today) and put our magnet under a category on the board (office, bathroom, counselor, hall). We also have to check off our name on a clipboard. We also learned that when Mrs. Ott needs to get our attention, she stands in a certain place in the front of the room and either says 5,4,3,2,1 or she rings a bell or wind chime. We also went over the voice levels in the hallway and watched a video about being respectful in the hallway. Writing memoirs was very fun too! Mrs. Ott told us about her mini lost and found bucket. Then we shared our memoirs with our table and read for the rest of the period.

Today we got our first A.O.W. (Article of the week). Then we went over Mrs. Ott’s Procedures (click on procedures to see the page). Then we went to Edmodo to see who joined. Mrs. Ott generated a new code to join the class. The password is UVWNFI.

Today we worked on our AOW. We wrote our first sentence for our summary. For homework, we have to finish our summary, which is three to five sentences. Then, we took notes, and shared reactions and opinions about the article with the class. Then, we wrote down vocabulary words that we didn't know. Finally, we ended the day with finding the value of words.

Today we started off class as usual with FVR time. Then, we checked on Mrs. Ott's Edmodo account to make sure everybody has joined, we all did!!! We also watched a video on how to appropriately carry a computer/Chromebook. A few people also shared their summaries on the AoW and the whole class commented on them. In the second half, Mrs. Ott asked us about how we should organize our papers for AoW. Then everyone listened to Mrs. Ott talk about how she grades our AoW paper and we were shown the rubric for it. Finally, the day was finished off with looking at the class procedure manual once again and talking about all of the rules. Overall, it was another great day in Mrs. Ott's English class!!!

Today in Mrs. Ott's classroom we started of our day with a casual fvr. After about ten minutes we put our books away, and started class. We first discussed how our A.O.W.s were going. As we discussed Mrs. Ott asked someone to share. their A.O.W. Jordana volunteered. She got up, and read her paper, and once she was done we discussed what we liked about it and what she could've added to it. Sadly our first half of class was ended, by the bell. After lunch we had a quick fvr, after fvr we went on funbrain, and played a varity of grammar games, like the waterslide game, and flick the teacher. We ended the games, and talked about word within a word for a few minutes

We had a tour of the library, which is next to the room. We went over expectations. We also had a presentation by Ms. Farrell about different genres. We also played a game where we were to sort books by genre. We also had a scavenger hunt to get us familiar with the school.

Today, we had a nice, long, relaxing FVR. A small group consisting of Jack, Alec, and Zach had performed a skit about Academic dishonesty, along with Izzy, Jordana, and I. Mrs. Ott had explained that the only thing that gets her mad is lying. She told us about something called Web Timer. It monitors the percentage of your time spent on sites. This conversation lead to us explaining all these different apps to monitor our usage.

Today we started off the day with a few minutes of FRV. We then started off with a discussion about how conflicts lead to change. We began it with talking about the conflicts in our life. We all went around sharing some of our problems. Mrs.Ott asks then asks the question "When does change occur?" She gives us an example of a change in the last two weeks such as middle school. We go over books where a character changes. Our classmates give examples of Breaking Dawn, The Hunger Games and Harry Potter. After our discussion we have story time! (at our seats) Then we talk about why people write stories. Mrs.Ott read us a story about the Greek goddess of the underworld Persefoni. She asks us to think about all the things we went over. It was about how Persefoni became part of the underworld and was asked to become Hades wife and how she changed from it. When Persefoni came back she made an agreement with her mom. She would spend spring with her mother on earth and winter in the underworld. And this was how we got our seasons. After Mrs.Ott finished we connected our story to our conversation. After we come back from lunch we watched a few videos about earth creation. The first video was about the Inuits belief on how the earth was made. We watched another video about creation afterwards from the Zulu people. Both were similar but also quite different. Our last video was about world creation from the Chinese story but it was very different from the first two. We then did an activity where we had to choose between two things that we would rather be or have. We all took turns explaining why we chose that certain thing. Afterwards we talked about why we did this activity. There were many reasons, but mostly Mrs.Ott did it to show us that we were all different. We end the day with some FVR.

Today we started of with our FVR and two people shared things for the Grammar Wall of Shame. Then, we talked about our AoW. Next, we talked about the SoW (Sentence Of the Week). Mrs. Ott gave us sentences and we wrote what we noticed about them. Then, we got to imitate those sentences. Next, we watched a video on why we should read. We each got to write a response to the message in the video. Then we took a grammar pretest.

Today we began our class with the usual FVR. Then we reviewed how to get AoW if you were absent or lost your article. You need to go to Mrs. Ott's blog, go to writing, and then click on AoW. All of the past AoWs should be there, and you click on the one you need. We next went through our SoW. We took a WWW quiz on edmodo with our new group on edmodo just for WWW. The new code is bwfyq8. We then looked at the word pneumonoultramicroscopicsilicovolcanoconiosis. We dissected the word using its stems and figured out that it is a disease of the lungs caused by small silicon dust particles. We practiced our WWW stems using a game show like process. We were all very excited when we watched the iPhone 6 and 6+. We all now fully understand that the camera on these phones have features that sound very impressive because the words are very long, and there are a lot of numbers. Mrs. Ott gave us an assignment of responding to the new phones on edmodo. Finally, John gave us our two minute countdown.

We began the day with a couple minutes of FVR (Free Voluntary Reading). We then started to talk about the reading minute, something that we have never learned about. Everyday that is a X-block day we do the reading minute. For this month, Mrs. Ott is choosing the article that we are doing it on, next month we get to choose. After the article is read to us by Mrs. Ott, we have to write a one sentence summary describing the article. Are first article was on "Does Practice Always Make Perfect?" Read by Zack. Mrs. Ott then told us all about the readability app which takes off all the adds from an article making it easier to focus on the actual words. Mrs. Ott then showed us a Super short video on Ice skaters practicing. We then started the reading minute. We all wrote our first reading minute and then went and commented on everyone's to help make it better. We then started WWW. We made a copy of the self study-guide, which can be found on Mrs.Ott's blog, then went to lunch. After lunch, we had a couple more minutes of FVR. We then grabbed a "The Word Within The Word book." We then turned to pg. 7 and started the activity. We then started tech time, and got many awesome apps. Webtimer, which is an app that shows how much percent of your usage is on which site, Readability, as I explained before and Grammarly, which is a grammar and spell check app. We ended the day exploring the sites.

Take a deep breath and relax because cause this is definitely not concise. We start off with a brief fvr, where I finish a book, yay! Its reado time. Next we pull out our Chromebooks and download two apps, a video editor app and an app that lets you have half a screen on one thing and then second on another. Next we did grammar using analogies and also learned a new vocabulary word, dullard meaning stupid person. Not the friendliest vocabulary word, but one that I didn't know! On our second week with Aows we did an article that related back to Jakie Robinson. Mrs.Ott knew we not all of us were very familiar with Jackie Robinson, so we watched a concise documentary about him and then wrote a one sentence summary on it. It is harder than it looks! all an of a sudden BRRRRING! Time for lunch.

First we had FVR. We were introduced "Who Will Win", a friendly competition between the english classes where we try to get more points for doing simple things, like entering the room properly. Then we did student scribe and SoW until lunchtime. After lunch we had a few more minutes of FVR. Then we finished up SoW. Then we went into the hallway to look at posters with Literary Terms and write down the ones we knew. Then we had someone give a quick summary of what has happened so far in Alice in Wonderland. We discussed that Lewis Carroll wrote the story based off a story that he told to a ten-year-old girl named Alice. After that we did a mini research project on Lewis Carroll and tried to collect as much information on him as possible. That was all we got to today in Period 5-7.

We started our day off with some FVR (as usual). Then we went straight to a SOW. Today's topic is clauses. A clause is a group of words that have a subject and a predicate. Then we learned that grammar is a way of thinking about language. We continued on with our SOWs and took a while imitating and talking more about clauses. We then renamed our ELA folders and went off to lunch. After lunch, we started off with some FVR. Then we made a folder called Poetry Analysis. We read a poem called Hope. Mrs. Ott had different people read the poem so we can see it from different perspectives. When we were done reading the poem, we had a really good discussion as a class about it. Then we began answering questions about the poem. After that, we got back our Articles of the week from two weeks ago. Then we discussed our easy fixes such as not capitalizing things or indenting. After that the bell rang, Mrs. Ott dismissed us and we head off to our next periods.

Today we started off ELA with our usual FVR(free voluntary reading). We took the 3rd WWW(word within a word) pretest, and started the SOW(sentence of the week/day) until lunch began. After lunch we finished the SOW. We then Introduced ourselves to two people(if you finished early) in the GRA(global read aloud). After ELA was over we went to our eighth period classes, and went on through rest of the school day.

We started off the day with FVR. We then talked about using the calendar on Edmodo. After that, we went to the WWW doc. We looked over words with the stems on the doc and worked on some of the definitions of the words. Time for grammar hammer! During grammar hammer we got a point for using a point for "who will win" when we used a semicolon and then we learned more about semicolons on a website. Kyle did a two minute lunch countdown and now we're off to lunch. We're back and ready to learn. We started to talk about annotating and V.I.P. (very important points). We then took the best V.I.P. in the article and we made a starting sentence for the A.O.W. After that we took the Alice and Wonder Land quiz. Then the two minute countdown and time to go!

After reading coming back to the classroom, we had FVR as people finished their pre-test. Afterwards, we tried a game that Charles Dodgson invented called Doublet where you take two different words and try to connect them by writing different words but only changing letter in each word till you come to the second word. We spend about ten minutes on them and many people get at least 1. Then Grant reads to us a part of a diary from a girl during world war 2 and he pointed out that she includes that Alice in Wonderland is her favorite book. Lastly, we read a few questions from cards and connected it to our book. We ended the day with two minute countdown.

We started the day with the usual FVR. After a few minutes, we stopped FVR and started Word Within a Word stems. We read sentences with one word missing, then we had to figure out which word fits best, based on stems. once we finished WWW we had a quick transition to SoW using the Grammar song! Brrring that brings us to lunch. After lunch, we had a few minutes of FVR. After we finished up FVR we started the reading minute. Today's reading minute was about where you think Wonderland is. Then we commented on a poem called My Fairy by Lewis Carroll and The Musn'ts by Shel Silverstein. We finish off the day with the 2 minute count down. That end another great day in Mrs. Ott's English class.
