Today in Mrs. Ott's Classroom, we got to know each other a little better than before. Also, we got letter from kids who were in Mrs. Ott's Class last year. In addition, we learned a little about Edmodo, and what we do with it.

Today, in Mrs. Ott's we did FVR ( free voluntary reading ). Another exciting is we got our assigned seats. Next, we learned about P.B.I.S. and the ways you should and should not walk through the hallways. Next, we talked about edmodo. After period 1 ended we wrote some memoirs about school ands our previous summer. After we wrote the memoirs everyone got into small groups and wrote our favorite ones on a big paper for all to see. Finally, we did a hard game that tested our cooperation, teamwork, and also tested our reading standpoint. Today was a great day.

Today in Mrs. Ott's class, we read the AOW (Article Of the Week) which was about how failure can lead to success. The article had examples of people have failed but ended up succeeding such as Steve Jobs and J.K. Rowling. Next, a few people shared some times when they failed but succeeded the following time. Additionally, we highlighted what is important about failure leading to success. Also, we did a fake fire drill. Finally, we ended with a fun activity

Today we started off with a bang when we started FVR (free voluntary reading). We then continued with a discussion on the annotations we wrote on our AoW (article of the week). After that, Mrs. Ott helped us with pre-writing on our AoW with a helpful rubric sheet. We ended with a fun and meaningful activity.

To kick of the day we began with FVR (free voluntary reading). Then, we checked Edmodo and made sure we all had joined. Next, we went over our READO cards, we discussed which books fell into which READO categories, and how many books we needed to read per quarter (5). Then, we worked on our AoW essays and read over Elena Gross's essay, we realized her mistakes and helped her fix them. Nice job Elena! Don't forget to include the definition of your AoW vocabulary words in your essay. Finally, we looked over The Procedure Manual and gained a better understanding of the class rules/rituals, Grammar and WWW (word within a word). All in all, today was a great day, I can't wait to learn more tommorrow! -IG

Today we learned about such fun facts as fines in the library. Slightly happier, we also learned where the books are in the library, when we can check out and return books, what you can do in the library, etc. Moving on to genres, we learned how to determine the genre of a book, movie, magazine, music, and more. We talked about realistic fiction (it could happen, but it didn't), historical fiction (it could have happened, but it didn't), mystery (some sort of thing that people don't know in an alternate universe and the heroes' quest to find it), fantasy (just kind of impossible, even given 3 gazillion year's worth of human advancement), science fiction (kinda sorta possible given 3 gazillion years of human advancement), and novels in verse (a book that's written in lots of poems), and classics (great books that everybody knows). We then did a genre sort, where we were given some books and we tried to figure out the genre. After that, we did another fun activity; a scavenger hunt. We had to answer a lot of questions and we roamed around the school looking for them.

Today, we started off with FVR, like every day. Then we talked about READO, and some people shared what they read over the weekend. Miranda's book, for example, was about a girl who was frozen for 100 years. I'm definitely going to check that book out! Next, the READO was passed around and people read while other people were filling it out. After that, we had two groups preform skits about academic dishonesty. We then, had the pleasure of Irene and James read their student scribe posts. Apparently, we have some comedians in this class! Afterwards, we tweeted on Mrs. Ott's twitter account, with some help from some tech-savvy classmates. Way to go David and Nate! Additionally, we all had "Time to Tweet".Writing down our six word memoirs, we added a little depth to them and then, who knows? Maybe someone will go home and actually tweet their "tweets"! Anyone have twitter accounts?

Today, as usual, we started with FVR. Next, we began to discuss how conflict can lead to change. We used examples from different sources, such as books and nature. After that, Mrs. Ott read us the myth of Persephone's Abduction. We talked about the changes of Persephone from the beginning from the end. We then heard an Inuit story and saw a Prezzi on an African story. All stories were about creation. We ended with a fun activity on preference and identity. (Letter, left. Postcard, right)!

As always, today we started out with FVR. After that, Mrs. Ott let people finish their MAP tests while the rest of the class studied www list 1 and then took the test. Soon when people had finished their first www test we started on a pre-test for list two. Remember, if you got a 90% or above you don't have to take the next test. Then we had some quiet work time and reading while others finished their map test. After that, we got our AoW test scores back. Then Sarah let us look on her Edmodo account and give a demonstration. Thanks, Sarah! That was everything!

Today on a beautiful Wednesday morning in Mrs. Otts class we started off with checking our assignments and seeing if we had any late ones that needed to be turned in. Then, we made an Alice in Wonderland folder for our first novel study. After that, we copied the WWW link to our study guide so we could study for our test next Tuesday. Next our class did a WWW activity where we tried to fill in a sentence that came from the classic book Peter Pan. They way we figured out what word filled in the blank area was by putting the meaning of the latin roots in the word together and using context clues from the sentence. Everybody decided on the word concise.

Also, we talked about how we could use concise and our past classic word supercilious. Because of our change in schedule Mrs. Ott decides to do an analogy project that we were going to do on Thursday. After this, we had a special guest come from the library. Our guests talked about a children's film festival where each film lasts 90 seconds.

Today, we started off with FVR. After that we looked at our WWW Study Guide. Mrs. Ott put our new stems into words and everyone figured out the meanings to practice for our quiz tomorrow. Also, we learned how to use a semicolon on theoatmeal.com. Then made our own compound sentences using semicolons and shared them with the people around us. Next, everyone took a look at the AOW for this week, an article titled Against Banning Books. Everyone got a stack of sticky notes and we labeled what we thought were the six main points. Then we tried summarizing the article in one sentence. To finish off the day, we had an Alice and Wonderland Quote Quiz.

Today we started off with taking our www #3 post-test and www #4 pre-test. Then we did FVR until everyone was finished. Next, we took out our spiral and started SOW. We talked about what a clause is. We then discussed the difference between a dependent clause and independent clause. We used stems to come up with a memory trick. Then, we watched a prezi about sentence fragments and dependent clauses. Then we were going to log into AR360 on Edmodo but a bit of confusion went around. Finally, we played table topics. Someone pulls a card and you answer a question for Alice In Wonderland. The first question is how could the conflict be resolved? Most people thought that she should stop using rabbits fans and drinking things. Overall today was a great day in Mrs. Ott's classroom.
