Nate and Blake

First, we started off with Evan reading an article about us! It was about how we had four groups of people getting in the 90-second Newbery film awards, it talked about how Sydney and Mariana did a version of rules and the difficult parts of making it into ninety seconds. As well as talking about Sydney and Mariana, it also talked about the rest of the Newbery winners and even Kayla Beck and Lexi Cohn who talked about some disagreements that they had which caused them not to enter it into the contest. After that, we watched the opening skit about the Newbery getting shorter and shorter and ended up destroying the books but it was saved by all of the summarized books. Finally, we had a long Socratic seminar for WITW but could only get through one group because of the early release. All in all, it was a great day in Mrs. Ott's class.

Today we began with our usual schedule, FVR. After that Blake and Nate read their SS, but it had a twist! Since we had a Socratic seminar yesterday, Blake took notes about the seminar instead of participating and observed what the class did well and the not so good. While Nate did the usual SS and just summarized our day. Nice transitions Nate! Afterwards Blake read our POD. Then we got out our WWW books and our WWW doc, and we looked for our new ‘classic’ word from James Watson’s The Double Helix. Next the room rushed everywhere to get ready for the Socratic seminar. During our Socratic seminar today we had great textual evidence and subject changes! Group 2 only got off topic for few seconds and we very good at subject changes. Afterwards we got a little off on Out of my Mind. The four people who scored the best in the quiz team were Conner, Claire, Rose, and finally *ring*. The bell rang while the last person was being named. It left us with tons of suspense to sleep on. Overall today we had a really productive class day.

We started off the day with Ryan reading his student scribe post from Friday. He had not posted it, but he was smart enough to put his scribe on his drive which is why he posted it this morning. After that, we took the WWW #15 test, we now have two weeks to study WWW 1-15, it will be on Tuesday, March 1st. Additionally, we had a PARCC practice test, but we only took a few questions because we had a twenty minute time limit. As well, we read the global read aloud book, Out of my Mind, Melody was sad because she was on the cover of a magazine, and other people were mad because they thought that it should have been all of them. Finally, we got a new AoW, it is just an article on Newsela, it is called "Foreign-born students create book of their hardest challenges" and all that we need to do, is take the quiz and write a summary paragraph. This format leaves time to work on the WITW essay, which is due on Friday. https://newsela.com/articles/foreignstudents-book/id/6867/

Today in Mrs. Ott’s class, we started with FVR. Nate read the SS and there was no poem. For the rest of the period, we had Writing Workshop. At the end, Mrs. Ott read us part of Out Of Our Mind and left us at a cliffie!

Today we started with FVR as usual. Mrs. Ott showed us Live Binder for The Giver. She showed us the checklist. If you were not here, you didn’t miss anything with Live Binder. So far, the activities seem interesting and challenging. We also found out what Vocaroo. The Giver is going to be a great novel study! We are OFFICIALLY starting this novel study next Wednesday. The rest of the period was Writing Workshop. It was a great day in Mrs. Ott' room!

Hello minions! Today we started off with FVR. No twist. Just regular FVR. Leah read her SS, and she read a poem. It didn't rhyme. Of course. Team Long-Leg Lou! Afterwards, we went around and gave our dystopian novels that we're reading. Whenever that was finished, we went over our strategies for learning the WWW List 1-15. Some of the major ones were: Listen on Quizlet, Learn on Quizlet, and doing Memrise. After that, the class played Race for Lists 1-15 on Quizlet. Eli typed for us. Unfortunately, I cannot say we excelled. Our team work skills aren't very good. We then did Learn. That went better. Shakesbear is smiling on us today! While we were racking our brains, the Giver books were handed out. They were smaller than expected. For this one, we work at our own pace. The next thing that we did was read aloud. As you know, Penny got hit by a car. To be specific, a car driven by her own mother. While said mother was being warned by Melody that Penny was outside. Bad parent. Penny survived, for better or worse. She just got a broken leg. Melody went to school to face the quiz team. Catherine got her card! But the quiz team got 9th place without Melody. Mrs. Ott stopped at the most inconvenient moment and we started on our Pre-Reading for the Giver. 4 questions that we need to think of: 1.How are our belief systems shaped by perceptions knowledge, and memory? 2. How do our actions affect others? 3. Is perfection worth the sacrifice? 4. What are the common themes to dystopia? We went over an introduction to the giver, which you at home can find at http://www.livebinders.com/play/play/1228933. Farewell, minions, and thanks for all the fish.

We started off the day with James' student scribe post from yesterday. James was not here, so Irene volunteered to read it. James had a comedic writing style for this post, and he was describing it to us as if we were minions. After that, we read a poem (good thing that James was not here,) it was a college-level poem and we finally got to use the literacy light (the road warning that Mrs. Ott had in her closet for no reason that she chose to pull out for these exact situations.) Then, we did a word within the word jeopardy made by Alec Livney (5-7) which was split up into categories for each three lists, with 5 questions each, numbered 100-500. Team two won the game with a score of over two thousand. Additionally, we finished the global read aloud book of out of my mind, it ended quite abbru[ptly and left some of us confused. Although not all of us were satisfied, we went on to Edmodo and joined her "The Giver 2015" and looked at her checklist for the book. Finally, we read the "introduction" and "before you read" parts of the binder.

Today we started with FVR and then Nate gave us his SS. After that, we went over the March Madness for March. Since it is the last day of February the March Madness will be ready when we come back to school. We were told to submit books for March Madness and see which book would win. Next, we played Kahoot for the list 1-15 test on Tuesday. Mrs. Ott said that if we get too noisy than we would not play the game anymore. Eli won the game! After, the class peer edited for our AoW. Next, we did the Amazing Grammar Race. David's group got the FastForward. The Amazing Grammar Race took us to the end of the day. It was a great day in Mrs. Ott's class.
